Area9 Lyceum and the Institut für Berufliche Bildung (IBB) have been honored by the eLearning Journal with the eLearning AWARD 2026 in the “Adaptive Learning” category. The award-winning project demonstrates how AI-driven adaptive learning technology significantly increase efficiency in professional further education.
A central element of the collaboration between Area9 and IBB is addressing the so-called “1h vs. 16h gap.” In traditional vocational qualification, learning content is often constrained by rigid timeframes—such as standard 16-hour courses that are identical for all participants regardless of prior knowledge. Area9’s adaptive system dismantles these structures: by continuously analyzing existing knowledge and individual gaps, learning time is reduced to the essentials. In practice, this means learners can often reach the same level of qualification in a fraction of the time—ideally in just one hour instead of sixteen.
The focus of this joint project is the scalability of high-quality education. In a labor market defined by rapid change and a shortage of skilled workers, time has become the most valuable resource. The adaptive platform not only recognizes what a participant already knows but also identifies “unconscious incompetence.” This ensures that, despite the significant time savings, the training is more rigorous and effective than conventional methods.
The eLearning Journal jury specifically praised the project’s focus on vocational qualification. They noted that the collaboration impressively proves that adaptive learning is no longer just a theoretical concept, but a highly practical solution for the challenges of the modern working world. The award underscores Area9’s commitment to achieving measurable success in corporate and vocational education through scientifically grounded technology.
